Last Sunday the U6's took to the field in front of a packed stadium. Boosted by the home ground advantage and wanting to play their best with their mum's watching on the kids faced off against the mighty Guildford team. The kids have been working on their tackling during training over the last few weeks and it really showed in this game. Despite a significant size difference between some of the players the little bulldogs put their bodies on the line in some bone crunching tackles. The defence was so strong that at one point the Raiders were trying to score on their try line.
Two of the most notable moments of the match were when Benji tried to take on the biggest player on the Raiders team, I'll still be hearing about that from him for years to come. The other was when Lukey shot out of the defensive line to line up the ball runner in a textbook tackle driving him to the ground. This inspired him to lift to another gear and scored a breakaway try late in the game from inside his own half, weaving through the defence and crossing over in the corner. These two are starting to realise that they can tackle just as well as the bigger kids and getting more and more confident as each game goes.
Ethan had another solid game in both attack and defence, he had to come off at one point after a solid head knock during a tackle. Luckily he was cleared after his HIA test and came back on to play the last quarter.
Christian had some great runs, always catching the defence on the back foot and was invaluable in defence. He's starting to show a good natural ability for reading the state of the game, looking for where to run and positioning himself against the play of the ball.
Both Josh and Jordan showed great improvement during this game, their confidence is building every week both running with the ball and getting involved in the tackles. Josh showed some great spirit pushing on despite taking a big hit leaving him winded. Jordan still won't quite talk to me but at least he's listening and his running with the ball is starting to get more drive, making more ground every run.
Daniel B. had a solid game this week and showed some speed with ball in hand. Despite starting off a run going backwards he managed to evade the entire defence to score, there was a potential issue with crossing over the sideline, however the video review revealed he somehow managed to stay in.
Jaxon backed up from his man of the match performance last week by showing even more improvement in his game. He's starting to look for spaces to run without having to be directed and is getting involved in almost every tackle.
This week the Top Dog award went to Daniel C. and it was a pretty clear cut decision. Daniel proved that size doesn't matter when tackling if you come in properly and demonstrated that a number of times. He never gave up chasing down a breakaway run and often ended up catching the other player, rarely leaving them standing after a tackle. He scored a couple of tries by just running fast and focusing on where the opposition were coming at him from.

Mothers Day.
The match up of the season, OLQP Bulldogs U7's against Baulkham Hills Brumbies for the second time this season. Last time it was game for the ages with the scores tied after a frantic 32 minutes.
Today though the Dogs came out a little better equipped after last week's 13 to 3 point towling from Girraween!
The boys had been practicing tackling, getting to the line and moving up as a team. And did it show today with some great try saving tackles from Jayden, William and Harrison who had a great game.
The boys were better from dummy half with everybody getting more involved which helped with quicker passing and being faster off the mark, this allowed some great bursts and runs with Jacob, Lucas, Alex and Spencer just coming up short. But with William and Orlando racing away , Paul escaping a loose tackle  , Harry putting on some serious steps, Antonio racing down the boundary and Jayden busting through their defensive line put the final score at 6 points to 4 over the Brumbies.
With speed and determination, some great tackles and awareness means that
Player of the match was well earned by William.
A good all round.
Happy mother's day mums

A huge improvement on last week. We worked hard on our team defence during the week and it paid off. Strong defence, coupled with minimal mistakes made this our best game of the year. Very proud of how the team performed this week.
Kash -
A good well rounded game. Strong runs, heaps of tackles and enthusiastic. (1 Goal)
Liam - Plenty of tackles, good service from dummy half and first receiver. Unstoppable in attack. A very good game! (3 Tries + 1 Goal)
Michael -
Mr Consistency. Another strong game. Always gives his all and the rock of our team. (2 Tries + 1 Goal)
Nabil -
Showed how to play smart football. A short kick off, regather and try in the one play showed his smarts and talent. Played well the whole game. (2 Tries + 1 Goal)
Kai -
Confidence is growing and his straight running was to be admired. In amongst the tackles. A great game.
Addison -
Tough and resilient. Took a huge head high tackle but came back strong. Some good runs and was always in the team tackles. Excellent game.
Beau -
Excellent running and made valuable metres. A big improvement in tackling - thanks to Dad doing some extra work at home. Solid performance.
Top Dog -
Connor Bates
Connor has been playing some excellent football since the start of the season. This year his confidence is high and his tackling is his strength. No fear, body on the line defence typifies Connor's attitude. Always chased down the attackers and never gave up. A really fantastic game. Well done Connor!
Til next week,

The boys played their first home game on the weekend against the Baulkham Hills Brumbies Blue side.

Playing on a larger field has meant the boys have had to adapt to a new playing style which has seen the boys create plenty of try scoring opportunities. While their attack has been on point and seen them unbeaten to date, their defence is something that will be focused on through the year to see them develop and become a true force to be reckoned with in future years.

In the forwards Anthony, Dylan and Lucas were at their devastating best with massive metres and bone jarring tackles which saw the Brumbies only score 4 tries.

In the backs Andrew, Jayden, Brooklyn and Zac showed pace in open space. Some of these opportunities were created by offloads from the forwards. These second phase plays and support play is something the boys have worked hard on at training.

Charbel played another outstanding game and was this week awarded unanimous man of the match by all players, parents and coaching staff. Charbel trains hard and plays hard, he often leads the tackle count and with many metres gained in attack often sending the opposition into a spin while he steps past them to score a try. Well done Charbel!

The Whites would like to thank their Mothers for cheering them onto the field before the game.

OLQP Bulldogs U9 (blue) vs Brumbies Blue

Win 52 - 20

What a great present for our mum's for mother's day, a home game plus our first win for the season. I was pleased with our effort today. Dummy Half & first receiver positions were played very well. I would still like our play the ball to be much quicker. Our kicking is perfect with 8 out of 9 goals. Well done team.

This week's top dog went to John Paul. JP played dummy half for our 4th quarter and was I was very pleased to see how well he played this role. Well done champ.

OLQP Bulldogs 36 vs Hurricanes 4

After last week’s top of the table clash, this round we were drawn against the unknown Hurricanes who have won and lost a couple of matches so far this season.

The first half was a very slow start by the boys. In the first 10 minutes of play we only had the ball for 2-3 plays, mainly due to ball handing errors. But the positive was that they were able to hold the other team to zero points. After 20 minutes of play the boys were able to cross for a couple of tries and go into the break with a 16 -4 lead.

The second half was the exact opposite of the first and it was the Bulldogs of the first 3 rounds. Lead by some great individual 1on1 tackling by Ethan, Isaac, Patrick and Zac, the opposition found themselves heading backwards.

Big training session next week as we need to be more disciplined in both attack and defence, because as a whole we are still giving away far too many penalties and the better teams will ensure we pay for these.

Overall, another solid team effort and after 4 rounds we are sitting on top of the table and undefeated so far.

Injury Report: Nil

Tries: Elias (2), Zac (1), Ethan (1), Jacob (1), Ryan (1) and Jayden (1)

Goals: Zac (1), Billy (1), Peter J (1) and Joe (1)
