BULLDOG BARK

Issue 12

Hello,

No training tonight due to ground closures. No games this weekend for the long weekend.

Please see your team coach or manager ASAP about tickets for the social night on Friday 30th June. We need to start organising tables etc. This year it will be held at a new location and is expected to be an even bigger, better night out! We are after donations for our raffle on the night, if you would like to donate or know someone who would like to donate a prize, please get in contact with us. More information on this is below.

Don't forget to read the match reports at the bottom of the newsletter. Make sure you let your child have a read or read it to them. Coaches sometimes mention names or put in some great tips which the kids would love to read!

The draw for rounds 7-13 has now been uploaded onto our website. Head to www.olqpbulldogs.com and go to upcoming games to see the draw.

If you have any questions about what is going on in the club, feel free to reply to this email or please approach your team coach or any of our committee members.

Regards,

Cara Pedavoli
Publicity Officer

Hi parents,
Sunday's game saw the boys play an understrengethed Girraween outfit. With only 4 players, so in good spirits we leased them some players sharing a half each. Jacob, Jayden, William and Spencer seeing what it's like to face the bulldogs on game day. The boys did well, the offence from the Girraween team, a little misguided at times was strong with both teams scoring often.
Both teams suffering a few on field injuries, Paul off after 2 quarters,  we were able to tie the game at full time. A clear stand out performance again from Harrison in attack and Spencer in defence ,  but it was Alex's second half tackling that earned him the top dog trophy.
Hopefully after a week off the boys will find the energy they had last week and put on another exciting game for us!
Cheers Ben

Under 8 Blue (28) vs Guildford Raiders (20)
A much improved effort by the whole team this week. Concentrating on limiting our mistakes and line speed in defence helped us seal the game.
Kash -  Another strong attacking performance. Made heaps of metres. (1 Try + 1 Goal)
Liam - Lead the team in defence and tries and played a gritty hard game. Very hard to stop when he gets the motor running. Keeps getting better. (3 Tries + 1 Goal)
Michael - Never gives up. Good straight running and made plenty of tackles (1 Try + 1 Goal)
Nabil - Another solid defensive effort. Made some good attacking runs. close to scoring a few times. Excellent in First Receiver. (1 Goal)
Kai - Best game this year. Confidence was back and he contributed in team win. Well done!
Connor - Plenty of runs and tackles. No fear in his game and is the quiet achiever. Great game!
Beau - Good attacking game this week. Made plenty of metres. Defence getting better. (1 Goal)
Top Dog -  Addison Anjoul
This is Addison's first year playing rugby league. She has no fear and really enjoys getting involved in all aspects of the game. Always wanting a run or eager to tackle, her enthusiasm is brilliant. Addison made some really great runs and was very involved in the tackles. She was our Captain on the day and did everyone proud. A great game Addison, well done!
Til next week,

OLQP 20 VS Brumbies Blue 26

The Whites took on the Brumbies Blue side for the second time this year. The first time the boys met earlier in the year the Whites edged out the Brumbies by 2 points. This time around the Brumbies were after revenge and started strong with 2 early tires from their big men who made big bustling runs and out muscled our boys to cross the line. The whites fought hard and scored through Charbel who jumped and hopped through the line to bring the boys back within 1 try.

In the second quarter our boys started strongly with some big runs from the Dylan, Lucas (The Fifita Brothers!) and Anthony which created some space for the fast men in Charbel and Brooklyn who outpaced the opposition and scored a try each. The Blues weren’t going to be outdone scoring another try bringing the scores level at half time.

In the third quarter Jayden made some clever darts from dummy half close to the opposition line to nearly score on several occasions. Zac found his voice this game and looked for the ball more often. After some persistence the Brumbies found a gap in our defence line and crossed for their forth try of the game, putting them ahead by 6 going into the last quarter.

In the fourth quarter with the game in the balance our boys needed to defend strongly. Andrew stepped up and made many valuable tackle assists to bring down some of their larger boys. In attack Charbel found space again to zip through the line and score his third try of the game. Unfortunately we missed the goal to be behind by 2 with 3 minutes left in the game. The Brumbies fought hard and in the dying minutes scored in the corner to take the game from the whites and finishing 6 points ahead at the buzzer.

Although the boys went down to good opposition they still tried hard throughout the game. It was also their first game with Coach Elie on the field, and the team played with structure lead by Charbel in the first receiver position.

Man of the match this week went to Jayden who made some big runs and was relentless in defence. Well Done Jayden!

Match Stats:

Zac – 3 runs and 6 tackles
Jayden – 8 runs and 8 tackles
Lucas – 5 runs and 8 superman tackles
Andrew – 3 runs and 7 tackles
Charbel – 9 runs and 13 tackles
Anthony – 7 runs and 8 tackles
Brooklyn – 10 runs and 13 tackles
Dylan – 8 runs and 11 superman tackles

OLQP Bulldogs U9 (Blue) vs Girraween

Won 30-10

We were a bit slow to start off with for this game. After the first 2 quaters we were only in front by 2 points. The second half of our game was much better. I seen a lot of effort today from everyone in defence which was good. I'd like everyone to spread out on the field a bit more though, and i'd like to see more running onto the ball when it's being passed. Overall great job team!

This week our top dog went to Christian H. Christian was one of our top tacklers for today's game and this was excellent to see. His running was nice and straight up the middle too. Keep up the good work champ!

OLQP Bulldogs 46 vs Guildford 22

After last week’s top of the ladder clash, this week we drew Guildford which were currently last on the competition. Unfortunately the boys new this and in the first half we were trailing 16-18. During the half time break the boys were able to reflect (or should I say, were reminded) on what they were doing wrong and what needed to change.

The second half was a huge improvement scoring 30 points to 4, with focus on defence and attack. Hopefully the boys realised today that it does not matter what ladder position the opposition holds that determines how hard or easy the game will be, because if we don’t turn up to play (like in the first half today) the opposition will be good enough to win.

Today we saw Peter H (AKA Little Peter) make a break from our 20 metre line and run 60 meters to score his first try in Bulldogs colours and all the boys ensured he congratulated and hopefully will never forget it. Well Done.

With a couple of tough games in the coming weeks, a big focus will be on the effort from all players from the start of the game until the final siren. This group of boys have the potential and ability to be the best team in the competition, but they need to do the little things in both attack and defence on a regular basis.

Overall a solid game and the boys were able to consolidate their 1st position on the ladder and stay 1 game clear of 2nd place.

Well done boys.
